Air quality is one input to a run, not a verdict on whether a person should exercise. A responsible forecast comparison keeps the named index, complete duration, route limits, source timestamp, and official guidance visible.
Activity changes caution, not rank
Begin with the named scale, not the color alone
AirAgora’s live result uses the official OpenWeather air-pollution scale from 1 to 5. A color or category has meaning only with that provider label, pollutant concentrations, timestamp, and modeled context.
AirAgora preserves the provider category for display and derives comparable severity separately from each documented pollutant concentration band to explain the main pollutant.
Exertion is context, not a hidden ranking formula
Running can involve more sustained ventilation than rest, which is why public activity guides distinguish activities and sensitive groups. AirAgora uses the selected activity to make caution copy more prominent; it does not silently reorder the environmental forecast.
Keeping ranking separate from activity makes the result consistent and explainable. It also avoids pretending that a general web tool knows pace, fitness, diagnosis, medication, symptoms, or a clinician’s advice.
Cover the duration and route of the run
A single low hourly point may be followed by deterioration. AirAgora compares complete two-hour windows and includes the worst hour in a 70/30 score. Missing values invalidate a candidate instead of being treated as clean.
A route can cross roads, parks, slopes, valleys, tunnels, indoor tracks, or multiple model cells. The broad OpenWeather grid—documented across a broad provider grid—does not create a street-level exposure estimate.
Read an all-poor day literally
When every complete practical window is poor or unhealthy, the lowest score is only the least polluted available period. It is not converted into “good,” “healthy,” or “safe to run.” The wording and warning remain visible.
Wildfire smoke, dust, or another incident can be more local and dynamic than the forecast. Official public-health and emergency guidance should take priority, and individual medical questions belong with an appropriate professional.
A practical pre-run forecast routine
Confirm the city, timezone, OpenWeather 1–5 label, source time, stale status, category, main pollutant, and trend across the whole planned outing. If candidate windows are materially similar, logistics may be a better tie-break than a small numerical difference.
Use AirAgora’s running tool when schedule flexibility exists. Saved profiles and alerts can reduce repeated checking, but notification automation does not guarantee delivery or replace official warnings.
