This tool compares complete modeled two-hour windows from 06:00 to 22:00 local time. It can identify a lower-pollution period relative to the available forecast, but it never promises that a window is safe for everyone.

What the tool calculates after you choose a city

AirAgora requests the selected location from the official OpenWeather API, preserves the provider’s 1–5 value for display, derives continuous severity from documented pollutant concentration bands, and evaluates complete two-hour windows. Ranking uses 70 percent mean and 30 percent worst-hour severity.

If the leading window is not meaningfully better than the median, the result says conditions are broadly similar. If every window reaches the internal poor band, the wording changes to “least polluted available window.”

What appears in the result

The result includes the local period, OpenWeather 1–5 value and category, main pollutant from concentration-band severity, activity caution, source, modeled status, provider update time, stale state, and completeness.

A teaser can be viewed before email capture, but selected hours and private recommendation details are not exposed in share payloads or public analytics. The email-gated reveal is not medical personalization.

How to use the answer responsibly

Use the result as a planning comparison rather than a guarantee. The broad OpenWeather model grid may differ from a street, indoor setting, local plume, or monitor. Check the timestamp and note whether the provider is current or stale.

During official warnings or severe events, follow the relevant authority. A consumer forecast cannot know incident-specific evacuation, shelter, school, workplace, or clinical instructions.

Why AirAgora does not choose one isolated hour

One attractive hourly point can be followed by a sharp deterioration. Requiring both hours to be complete makes the answer useful for a real activity period and stops missing data from appearing clean.

The worst-hour component keeps a spike visible, while the mean remains the larger weight. Ties go to the earlier local window so repeated requests stay deterministic.

Scale and location details matter

Every live result labels the official OpenWeather air-pollution scale from 1 to 5. It is not presented as U.S., European, or local regulatory AQI, and interface language does not change that identity.

The static city corpus uses GeoNames coordinates and IANA timezones. Arbitrary provider geocoding is available for the live funnel but is not automatically converted into an indexable city page.

  • Choose the intended city when names are ambiguous.
  • Check the OpenWeather 1–5 label.
  • Read the source and update time.
  • Treat “best” as relative to available modeled hours.
  • Use official guidance for urgent decisions.

Is the best time guaranteed to have clean air?

No. It is the lowest deterministic score among complete practical windows in the available modeled forecast. The whole day can still be elevated.

Why are windows two hours long?

Two complete hours better represent a usable outing and prevent one isolated value from controlling the recommendation.

What if all windows are similar?

If the improvement over the median is below the meaningful-change threshold, AirAgora says conditions are broadly similar rather than naming a precise winner.

Can I use my current location?

Yes, only after an explicit click. AirAgora never requests browser geolocation on page load.

What happens when OpenWeather is not configured?

Production fails closed with provider_unconfigured and names the missing OPENWEATHER_API_KEY. It never substitutes fixture or another provider.

Does AirAgora store my exact location publicly?

No. Public share, teaser, analytics, and notification logs omit exact coordinates and private recommendation details.
